A bare leg, the face turned to the side, unscathed, hair flowing softly over the bloody ground. The sight of staged dead female bodies is a normalized image for us. Despite consistently high femicide rates in Austria, the female corpse remains a staple in all forms of entertainment. The fragility of this beautiful (mostly young) body, the cruelty of its destruction, provides shock and suspense in the storyline and lends emotional depth to the male protagonist.

Anna Rot played her first corpse for television at the age of eleven; many more followed. For TVMordia, she speaks with colleagues about their experiences of playing dead, the absurd demands involved, and the strategies they use to meet them. The interviews become a soundscape; the corpses are given a voice. The choreography of the ways they die rewrites the collective experience of passive bodies.
